TRANSINDONESIA.CO – Regional Police Riau Islands (Riau) awaiting extradition file on behalf of the citizens of Singapore Lim Yong Nam who is wanted by Interpol and secured in Batam on October 28, 2014.
“We are still awaiting extradition agreement files that have previously been submitted to the US government the Police Headquarters. We will wait until the process is finished and out the extradition order,” Kasubdit I Ditreskrimum Riau Islands Police Superintendent Armaini in Batam, on Thursday (12.12.2014).
He said the application for extradition Lim Yong Nam has been submitted to the Police Headquarters after the unknown fugitive arrested in Riau Islands Police.
“Today was translated by the Police Headquarters. After arriving to the Riau Islands Police, the extradition file will be bestowed again to the High Court of Riau Islands to proceed to trial,” he said.
He said, Riau Islands Police did not investigate allegations of crimes committed in the United States as alleged.
“If the violations of the law did not we do the investigation, because the alleged crimes committed not in Indonesia. The arrest is based on the banned list issued by Interpol,” he said.
Despite being held long enough, said Armaini, it will continue to extend until the extradition has been translated sent to the Riau Islands Police Criminal Investigation.
In accordance with Law No. 1 of 1979 on extradition, extradition bring not apply to political crimes. Extradition can be done if the good relations with the countries of Indonesia who filed extradition to the alleged perpetrators of crimes in the country of the applicant. Lim included in the list of Interpol as sought by the United States for violating the US trade embargo against Iran.
The US government has accused Lim gained 6,000 radio frequency modules to be exported to Iran and has asked for extradition in 2011. But the extradition request could not be performed due to the Singapore High Court declared the case does not occur in the country.(ant/ful)
