Pertamina Explains the Chronology of Oil Leak Incidents
TRANSINDONESIA.CO – PT Pertamina (Persero) is focusing on covering gas and oil spills off YYA-1 Beach in one of the Pertamina West Hulu Offshore (ONWJ) (PHE) areas in Karawang, West Java. The impact of this report was the scattering of oil spills to the beach in the ONWJ area.
Quoted from Republika.co.id, Pertamina Upstream Director Dharmawan H Samsu explained the reporting chronology began on July 12 at 1:30 a.m. when I pre-entered the YYA-1 well in the perforation activity, gas bubbles appeared on the YY platform and the Ensco-67 rig located in the ONWJ offshore operation area.
“YYA1 well is an exploration well named YYA4 which was drilled in 2011,” Dharmawan said at a press conference at Pertamina Headquarters, Jakarta, Thursday (25/7). Dharmawan said, PHE ONWJ immediately activated the Incident Management Team (IMT) so that the incident occurred.
On July 14 at 10:40 p.m., all workers working on the bridge and around the area were safe. On July 15, 2019, PHE ONWJ declared an emergency condition by writing to SKK Migas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Then, on July 16, 2019, oil or oil layers on the surrounding surface began to appear, in addition to the gas bubbles that were still occurring. On July 17, oil spills began to appear around the bridge.
“On July 18, the oil spill reached the coast to the west. The distance of the bridge with the Karawang coastline was around two km,” Dharmawan said.
Dharmawan said that aside from focusing on work safety, the surrounding community, and minimizing the effects of environmental pollution, Pertamina is also conducting an investigation to find the cause of the problem. Darmawan gave rise to the fact while there was anomalous pressure when it was issued so that gas emerged and joined the oil spill.
“We are investigating immediately and not yet have to be detailed and see all the facts,” Dharmawan added. [ROL]
