TRANSINDONESIA.CO – People Amungme Joseph Yopi Kilangin said, it was time Papuans from the Amungme and Kamoro occupied the top position as President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia.

Speaking to Antara in Timika, Sunday, Yopi Kilangin said, in the near future will be held the General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) PT Freeport Indonesia.

One of the main agenda of the AGM this time is choosing a figure that will replace Rozik B Soetjipto becoming president director of the company’s gold and copper mine.

Yopi says that after 48 years of Freeport present conduct mining operations in the area of indigenous and customary rights of the Amungme and Kamoro, then it is time for the company to provide a decent place for the best sons of the two tribes.

“Two years commencing Freeport has 50 years of operations in our land. But we Amungme and Kamoro never felt any sense of the presence of Freeport in our place. Although Freeport claims to have issued a trillion to pay attention to the Amungme and Kamoro,” said son of the late Moses Kilangin.

Moses is one of the key figures behind the events of signing the document “Agreement of January” 1974.

Agreement in January 1974 the initial impetus to the commencement of exports of copper ore produced Freeport mine in Tembagapura, Papua.

Based on the fact that, according Yopi, it is time for all shareholders of PT Freeport Indonesia, Freeport McMoRan both the majority shareholder and the Government and other parties to entrust one of the best sons of Amungme and Kamoro to lead PT Freeport Indonesia.

“It is time for people of Papua led by PT Freeport Indonesia in Papua. When seated figure Papuans became supreme leader in PT Freeport Indonesia, then it gives a very high value for the people of Papua. No need too much consideration. It is the right time,” said Yopi, former Chairman of the Parliament of Mimika period 2004-2009.

According to him, the current PT Freeport Indonesia is facing a variety of problems, both in the internal environment with employees and external parties with indigenous groups.

In that condition, he said, Freeport need someone who can dampen all the turmoil and a variety of problems that occur in the company.

Yopi Kilangin believe that President Joko Widodo also fully supports the desire of the people of Papua especially Amungme and Kamoro to entrust one of their best men to lead Freeport.

“We are very confident that as President Jokowi give great attention to Papua today. If it Jokowi really pay attention to the people of Papua then certainly he recommended one of the best sons and daughters of Amungme and Kamoro to lead Freeport. The decision was not priceless compared with all the physical development has been done Freeport for this, “he said.

He added that residents Amungme and Kamoro custom made a deal to encourage the aspirations that fought in the GMS PT Freeport that will last a few days ahead.

“We already have an agreement in customary to push one of the country’s children are the best to get into the lead immediately PT Freeport Indonesia. If it is certainly an authoritative leader of the company’s operations will be smooth, as well as relations with the government and indigenous people would be accommodated as well,” Yopi clear.

Various problems which have occurred in Freeport, he said, is the accumulation of a decision that was never balanced in addressing the demands and rights of indigenous peoples and Kamoro and Amungme Papuan people as a whole who have land where the mining company’s operations take place.(ant/kum)
